Ranatunga Audits SLC funds

The new chairman of Sri Lanka Cricket is to call in external auditors to scrutinise the body's accounts in an attempt to stamp out corruption.

Arjuna Ranatunga, who has previously been critical of businessmen heading the cricket board, said he planned to bring in independent auditors as soon as possible.

Since the late 1990s, Sri Lankan governments have several times dismissed democratically elected cricket bodies on grounds of financial impropriety.

'My hands are clean. I will never try to make money out of the game's administration,' said Ranatunga, 44.

He also suggested the game may be professionalised in Sri Lanka. It is still based on an amateur system, meaning players cannot earn a living from playing unless they are picked for their country.
