[Video] Muttiah Muralidaran 7/155 vs England | 1998

The world seems to close in on a batsman who is so oppressed. Reason departs and is replaced by panic - ``Do I lead with pad or bat? I must not lunge with both together. For how long can I play a miss? I must not be shackled, I must attack this demon.'' So Butcher tried the chasse again but this time, fatally, he left his crease just a split second before Muralitharan released the ball. The bowler dragged the fizzer shorter by a foot, beat the batsman's desperate lurch and had him stumped by a country mile.

Dreamy, old-fashioned stuff captured in one man's artistry. But Muralitharan is different again from what has gone before. He controls the ball from his fingers but uses an enormous flick of the wrist to increase the revolutions which make the ball spin so. He is not a 'drifter' in the way that, say, Fred Titmus was, or Robert Croft is now, someone who swings the ball towards the slips from an off-stump line and then trusts in spin to create the gap between bat and pad. [Video] Sanath Jayasuriya 213 Vs England | Oval Test Match 1998

"For nearly two days the England cricketers put the capacity crowd at the Surrey Oval to sleep. But on day three the brilliant batting display of the Sri Lankans - Sanath Jayasuriya awoke the English spectators and set alight the Oval. What a fantastic performance by Sri Lankans, quoted Michael Holding.

Jayasuriya reached his fifth century in his career in 124 balls and reached its epic 213 runs in 346 minutes facing 327 balls of which he dispatched 33 of them to the fence and one over the fence. Sanath Jayasuriya provided the fireworks, with technically skilled batting. Cutting and driving with authority, he trounced every bowler brought against him."

[Video] Sanath Jayasuriya Vs Angus Fraser | 1998

The Sri Lankan's were not worthy of more than one test match. At least that's what the English authorities thought. Sri Lanka left the English red faced as they completely demolished them with both bat and ball.

Jayasuriya destroyed their bowling with 200+ and De Silva scored 150 in the 1st innings; Murali destroyed the English batting in the Pom's 2nd inning. With Sri Lanka requiring 35 to win the one off test vs England. Jaysauriya decides to finish the game ASAP.
